Positive Training with Small Group Classes

Due to the overwhelming popularity of our Basic Manners Made Easy classes we will set a date for our other classes when 5 people have placed their names on the wait list.

 

Our Services Include:

 

Teach Children How To Be Safe and How To Have Fun With Dogs:

Most appropriate for children 5 years of age and older

This is only for parents and children, no dogs please.

This FREE class will be offered upon request so please call to register

Basic Manners Made Easy: Our continuous basic classes are a new concept in dog training. Each class teaches new skills which are not based on the previous class so you can begin training when it's convenient for your family. Can't make a class, just attend the next time it's offered.

 

*Please bring the following items to class: something for your dog to sit on such as a towel, pad or bathroom rug; variety of tiny yummy treats;

buckle or snap collar and/or harness/halti; 6 ft leash*

(We do not use flexi-leads or choke chain collars)

  Sundays at 11:30

A Step Above: 2nd LEVEL INSTRUCTION for owners seeking more advanced training for their dogs. The challenges of distance and distraction are presented along with the introduction to agility equipment.

  7 classes for $190

Class Size: 6 Dogs

Advanced K9 Skills: 3rd LEVEL INSTRUCTION is designed for dogs and owners who have a good understanding of the basic commands. Have fun with your dogs while building skills such as recalls and stays. We will introduce Rally Obedience as well as work with agility equipment. Our dogs are always more interested in responding to us when we're happy so this will certainly be a fun class. Games & exercises may vary depending on the skill level of the class. A Step Above is a prerequisite for this class.

K9 Detection Work/Find It: Level I

This class is a lot of fun for both dogs and their owners as it builds

on the dog’s natural instinct to hunt. It's the beginning of detection work.

After all what could be better than finding chicken in a box? Provides physical and mental stimulation as it builds confidence. More advanced Nose Work classes will include interior, exterior and vehicle searches. This activity can be used in a variety of ways from rewarding basic commands to helping a shy dog feel more comfortable in an environment.

Class is limited to 6 dogs so call Dog Paws to register as soon as possible.

K9 Detection Work/Find It: Level II: Detecting the Scent of Birch

Dogs must have had an introduction to Nose Work. This class adds the challenge of finding a scent using various containers and locations.

K9 Detection Work/Find It: Level III

Under the guidance of Jacy Kelley, 1st Certified Nose Work Instructor in the Mid-Atlantic area. Continue to locate various scents in addition to working outside with area searches and focus on handler skills.

Limit 6 dogs

Raising Dogs With Babies

Learn how to be more relaxed with your dog and your new baby. Be proactive so your dog will feel comfortable with a young family member. Learn how to make a positive association for your dog with the infant even before the baby is born. We will demonstrate necessary obedience skills as well as helping you with "pre-baby" and "post-baby" exercises.

Your dogs are not included in this class.

1 session for $25: 1 to 2 hours depending on questions

Field Trip 101: Learn how to have fun with your dogs in public places. Teach them that good things happen when they listen to you. The first class is held at Dog Paws to review basic manners and then we will go to shopping centers, parks and other areas of interest. Limit 5 dogs.

Our first Field Trip Class on 3/14/09 was a huge success. In addition to visiting parks such as the one pictured below our dogs

  had the many challenges of shopping centers. They practiced their manners around distractions such as traffic, store doors automatically opening, adults and children moving quickly, rolling grocery shopping carts  and even riding in an elevator.

AKC Canine Good Citizen Class and Testing: AKC's program rewarding a dog who has good social skills and their owner who demonstrates proper dog control. Test is during the final class. Class is open to all breeds.
